![]() ![]() ![]() After six weeks from the unveiling of the GT40 concept, Ford announced a limited production run of the car. Although the cars are visually related, structurally, there is no similarity between the modern GT and the 1960s GT40 that inspired it. The GT is similar in outward appearance to the original GT40, but is bigger, wider, and most importantly 4 in (100 mm) taller than the original's 40 in (100 cm) overall height as a result, a potential name for the car was the GT44. While under development, the project was called Petunia. Carroll Shelby, the original designer of the Shelby GT 500, was brought in by Ford to help develop the GT which included performance testing of the prototype car. Camilo Pardo, the then head of Ford's "Living Legends" studio, is credited as the chief designer of the GT and worked under the guidance of J Mays. The overly aggressive Fuel Pump was replaced with yet another NEW Fuel Pump which was tested before hooking it to the 4100 and found to be putting out 6.9 PSI. This is referred to as an "overly aggressive" Fuel Pump. At this pressure, the Fuel Pump was blowing past the Needles&Seats and causing an overflow from all of the Vents. The NEW Fuel pump was then tested with the NEWLY acquired Vacuum/Pressure Test Rig and was found to be putting out almost 9 PSI. The fire was extinguished with a Fire Extinguisher which put a fine Yellow Powder all over everything, necessitating a sixteen day long removal and cleaning of many of the component in the Engine Compartment, and the rebuilding of the 4100. This time, a wet towel was not available.Īn attempt was made to put out the fire in the Venturis by cranking the Engine with the Throttle wide open in an effort to suck the fire into the Intake Manifold.Īt that time, the 4100 overflowed at the Fuel Bowl Vents in the front and back of the Air Horn Assembly, AND from the four Vent Tubes around the Venturis, which caught the whole Engine Compartment on fire. The next thing that happened was that there was a fire in the Venturis from the over-rich condition while at the Post Office to pick up a Vacuum/Pressure Testing Rig. That fire was put out with a wet towel over the Venturis. The next thing that happened was that there was a fire in the Venturis from an over-rich condition in the Carburetor. That was fixed by adjusting the Float Levels in both the Primary and Secondary Fuel Bowls and bending the Float Shaft Retaining Clip so that it held the Float Shaft in place with more pressure. The next thing that happened was that the Vents on the front and rear of the 4100 started leaking. ![]() That was fixed by hand cutting a NEW Gasket from a thicker Gasket Material and tightening the Screws holding the Air Horn Assembly onto the Carburetor body a bit tighter. The next thing that happened was the Gasket between the Air Horn Assembly and the Carburetor Main Body started leaking. That was fixed by installing another Flare Fitting and tightening it down to a higher torque setting. The Autolite 4100 Carburetor was supposed to be able to handle the above mentioned 4.5 to 6.5 PSI.Īs soon as this Fuel Pump was installed, there were problems with the Fuel Inlet of the 4100 leaking. It was replaced by a Stock Fuel Pump from NAPA. American that was put on in 1989 finally gave up the ghost. Depending on what Carburetor you are running, the fuel pump SHOULD be putting out from 4.5 to 6.5 PSI. ![]()
